We at Balls.ie have claimed before that the 2000 Royal Rumble is the best PPV event of all time, and the response to that suggestion was so positive that it's clear that many of our readers feel the same way.

That's why when we had the opportunity to speak to WWE legend Paul Michael Levesque, better known as Triple H, there was only one place we were going to start.

Madison Square Garden played host to one of the most unforgettable nights in professional wrestling history back in January of 2000, and it still stands out to one of the stars of the night over 16 years on.

That would be one of my favourite matches.

That was at a time when I think both Mick Foley and I were trying to make a statement in our careers and get to the next level and become main event performers. Mick, for me at that point in time, we just had a great chemistry and I was lucky to be able to have Mick there and be able to perform with him.

To do the business that we did was something that I was very proud about at the time. On that night, outside of the rumble, we were the main event and I thought we really delivered.

It's something that stands the test of time, and that's one of those things where it's one of my favourite moments of my career, one of my favourite matches, and there's a bond you share with talent that you were in that era with and that's something for Mick and I, I always feel very close to Mick for that very reason. That match is just... It helped make my career.

We very nearly teared up on the phone.

That match had everything. 2x4s wrapped in barbed wire, thumb tacks which Cactus Jack would be Pedigree'd onto, and The Rock making an appearance to smack HHH with a chair, and it is extremely satisfying to know how big of an impact it had for the men competing in it.
