Watch: Khan Bursts Out Laughing As Oscar De La Hoya Makes Schoolboy Leicester City Gaffe

Amir Khan challenges Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez for the lineal middleweight world championship at the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night.

Many in boxing and beyond are lauding Khan's decision to climb a weight-and-a-half to challenge the formidable fire-haired Mexican, particularly considering the former's history with big punchers in his own lane. None more so than Golden Boy Promotions head honcho Oscar De La Hoya - himself a former six-weight world champion - whose midweek claims that anybody who 'knows boxing' would consider Khan a favourite over Canelo were universally scoffed at by people who actually know boxing.

De La Hoya's job, after all, is to sell pay-per-views in what on paper strikes as an intriguing if one-sided contest. In his efforts to talk up Khan, the 1992 Olympic champion cited Premier League champions Leicester City as a reason to believe that their countryman can upset the odds in Las Vegas.

But with one stereotypically American twist...

Perhaps the funniest thing of all is the sheer conviction with which De La Hoya makes his claim - absolutely unwavering in his certainty that Leicester won the now-defunct UEFA Cup.

In fairness, nobody expects the Hall of Famer to be 'soccer' expert, but Khan's reaction probably says it all.
