The Opinion From Germany - "We Thought Cyrus Christie Was A Batman Villain"

The dust has settled on an historic night for Irish football, and while over here some have returned to work with a sore head and others are keeping the party going, over in Germany it's back to normal after a night to forget.

We reached out to our friends over at 11freunde.de to ask them how the country was reacting to what happened last night, and as always they were very helpful in giving an idea as to the mood in Germany.

We spoke to Stefan and Ron, two experts on German football, and we asked them a number of questions such as how the media had reacted, and if they knew of any of the Irish players. While they were familiar with Robbie Keane and Shay Given, as well as Premier League players such as John O'Shea and James McCarthy, they had absolutely no idea who Cyrus Christie was, or rather, they thought they knew him from somewhere else:

Well.. Isn't he a Batman villian? No, we know Irish players, everybody knows Robbie Keane, and Shane Long, who has a beautiful name. In German it translates to "Very nice, and long."

Funnily enough, we would describe Shane Long's goal as nice and long.

We also asked them if they thought we could beat Poland, and they were very confiendent... So long as we can stop Robert Lewandowski from scoring. Sounds easy enough.

Listen to the audio below, and a big thanks to Stefan and Ron for talking to us, hopefully we meet again at Euro 2016.
