Having signed both Clint Dempsey and Gylfi Sigurdsson from under Liverpool's noses, Tottenham have become something of an irritant in the transfer market for the powers that be at Anfield. Now it looks like that situation may continue again this summer.
It is being widely reported that PSG attacker Ezequiel Lavezzi has agreed, in principle, to join Spurs on a four year deal. With Liverpool also said to be interested in the Argentine attacker, that could come as a bit of a blow to Brendan Rodgers and the much discussed transfer committee.
From a Liverpool point of view, it's hard to know what to make of this one. Lavezzi would be an excellent signing in the short term and he is perhaps the closest thing Liverpool could have got to Luis Suarez last year. However, it would be quite an unlikely signing for Liverpool to make.
The American owners have to date been staunch in their belief that the way to go is to sign younger players with a sell on value. Lavezzi does not fit in that category. All in all, he's a decent option but Liverpool will probably be happy for Spurs to give him the big bucks well into his thirties.
