Jamie Carragher Names His Three Worst Liverpool Signings Of The Modern Era

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has bluntly revealed who he considers to be Liverpool's three worst signings in the club's history.

And the unlucky trio who were victimised by Carragher's assessment include Alberto Aquilani and unsurprisingly, El Hadji Diouf.

Speaking in a questions and answers session on the Daily Mail, Carragher explained the reasons for his short-list.

There's been a few. El Hadji Diouf has got to be up there. Alberto Aquilani would have to be up there as well. We spent a lot of money on him. He was signed injured, he left injured and I can't remember him not being injured.

There's very little love lost between Carragher and El Hadji Diouf. The pair exchanged some heated words recently when the latter caused a stir with some deluded notions of being a 'world class player' compared to Carragher. The former Liverpool defender promptly put him in his place.

Carragher then proceeded to lay into Mario Balotelli, by singling him out as possibly the worst signing of them all.

I can't believe we signed Mario Balotelli! The thing with Balotelli is everyone always says it's the off-the-field antics, but I wouldn't care if he was doing it on the pitch. People tell me he's got talent but I can't remember him having a good game. I'm praying with all the money in the Chinese Super League that someone is going to buy him after his loan. I don't think anyone in the Premier League will take him. He has to be No 1 with Aquilani and Diouf.

This is an argument he also alluded to last summer.
