Jamie Carragher Reserves 'His' Most Damning Criticism For Dejan Lovren

Dejan Lovren is in the stocks following Liverpool's 3-0 mauling at home to West Ham yesterday.

He was pilloried for his ungainly display with the ball at his feet, the highlights (if that's the right word, which it probably isn't) being his attempt at a double step-over which resulted in him stumbling and being dispossessed and the comically inept footwork which led to West Ham's second goal.

Jamie Carragher gave some patient advice to the lad, saying he should focus on the simple things and forget about Hollywood 'style' passes.

However, he made a rather intriguing comparison. Given Carragher's profound disdain for the defensive abilities of the frizzy haired Brazilian, this is as harsh as it gets from Jamie.

The only way to describe Lovren's performance was David Luiz-like.

He was doing things you don't really want to see centre-backs do: 50-yard passes - that at time got there - but there was one occasion where he did a double stepover and then got tackled.

I don't know if it's overconfidence after a couple of good performances but I'm watching him thinking, just do the basics.

Carragher has previously been very insistent that he wouldn't want to play in defence with David Luiz, notably after Gary Neville suggested that Luiz was a 'massive player'.
