We Can Relate To This Arsenal Loanee's World Cup Panini Sticker Woes

Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell bought fifty quid's worth of Panini World Cup stickers to find one of himself, but there wasn't a single one of him among the 500 trading cards.

I don't know about you, but I find the mental image of young Joel ripping each packet open with increasing anxiety as his picture keeps failing to show up absolutely hilarious.

It's a rather adorable failure by the Costa Rican, who was clearly overcome with childlike excitement at the prospect of seeing his image on a World Cup football sticker. I was surprised to hear that they're still a thing these days - presumably Panini make a tidy profit from such egotistical splurges by players themselves.

Campbell tweeted a picture of what he claims were 100 opened sticker packets, which would come to 500 stickers in total. In Britain a packet of five retails at 50p, so they're probably closer to €1 in Ireland.

Players from all 32 countries are included in the collection, including 17 Costa Ricans. There are 640 stickers in total to collect.

He wasn't the only Costa Rica player to try and locate a sticker of himself. Fulham's Bryan Ruiz, who is currently on loan to PSV Eindhoven, tweeted a picture of himself yesterday.

Campbell, 21, is best known for his excellent strike in Olympiacos 2-0 defeat of Manchester United in Piraeus in February. Despite taking a lead to Old Trafford, the Greeks lost the return leg 3-0.
