The FAI's numero uno chose the right moment to distance himself from Sepp Blatter.

John Delaney has evinced a cool attitude towards Blatter since he flagged up the 33rd team proposal in a press conference in 2009.

Yesterday, he said that Ireland would not be voting for Blatter and that the organisation had a bad brand image.

How the organisation must look back fondly on those days when the most one could say was they had a bad brand image.

Delaney was on Today with Sean O'Rourke this morning, where he was interviewed by stand-in host Keelin Shanley on the dramatic events of the morning.

Like most people, he is incapable of being surprised by any story that comes out about FIFA these days.

Delaney once more called on Blatter to accept responsibility for what has gone on during his tenure.

On the question of Blatter's impending re-election, Delaney took the view that Blatter will likely win the election if it goes ahead as scheduled but he hinted that the arrests could help solidify opinion within UEFA that he needs to be offed.
