They may have missed out on one of the big signings of the summer so far but now AC Milan look ready to open up the chequebook to pip Liverpool to the signing of Sevilla's Carlos Bacca. The Rossoneri had been less than pleased that city rivals Inter had snapped up Geoffrey Kondogbia from under their nose. However, this time around, it seems that they have got their man.

It had looked likely that he would join Roma, but the Colombian's agent yesterday confirmed that it was Milan who had jumped to the top of the lengthy queue for the 28 year old. The offer for Bacca is expected to meet his £21 million release clause.

I can confirm that Milan and the player have reached an agreement. Carlos has chosen the best for his future, it is normal to be happy.

That decision is also significant news for Liverpool. It had been assumed that Bacca was one of the main reasons why Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre having remained in Chile at the Copa America after tying up a deal for Roberto Firmino.

Reports emerged that Bacca, along with Venezuela striker Solomon Rondon, were the Anfield club's top two options should a deal for Aston Villa's Christian Benteke not come to fruition. The Belgian remains the club's number one target but, should Villa fail to lower their £32.5 million asking price, it now appears that Rondon will be the most likely man to lead the line at Anfield at the start of next season.
