With United winless in six games, Louis Van Gaal's position is under serious threat, with reports claiming he has two games to save his job and last night, speculation intensified around the Dutchman's position.

Van Gaal today put the brief in press briefing, as he answered just three questions before leaving after five minutes. Van Gaal asked journalists for an apology, before walking out:

Has anybody in this room not a feeling to apologise to me? That's what I am wondering.

“I think I was already sacked I have read. Or have been sacked. Or that my colleague [Jose Mourinho] was here already.

“What do you think that happens with my wife or with my kids? Or with my grandchildren? Or with the fans of Manchester United? Or with my friends? What do you think?

Despite his foul mood, Van Gaal did at least remember to wish the assembled hacks a happy Christmas:

I wish you a merry Christmas I wish you a Merry Christmas and also maybe a Happy New Year when I see you.

Enjoy the wine and a mince pies.

Perhaps the 'maybe' before New Year is telling.
