Louis Van Gaal's Allergy To Strikers Confirmed As Young Star Leaves Club On Loan

Manchester United have certainly not got an embarrassment of riches when it comes to strikers at the moment, as they started the season with only Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial, and James Wilson as recognised strikers in the first team.

Many thought that due to injuries to Rooney and Martial in recent weeks, the young James Wilson would be given a chance, as he was around Christmas time last year under Louis Van Gaal, but instead the striker is heading for the Championship.

ManUtd.com today confirmed that James Wilson will be joining Brighton & Hove Albion on loan until the end of the season:

Manchester United striker James Wilson will spend the remainder of the 2015/16 campaign on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 19-year-old, who turns 20 on 1 December, has made just two first-team appearances this season - a start in the Capital One Cup defeat to Middlesbrough and a run-out from the bench in the league defeat at Arsenal last month.

Injuries have hampered his chances, while the impressive form of summer signing Anthony Martial has also limited his opportunities.

While there must surely be some sort of clause in the deal in case Rooney and Martial both become unavailable, or there is a clear plan to bring a striker in during the January transfer window, this is a big risk by Louis Van Gaal.

It also can't be encouraging for Wilson, who has shown flashes of his finishing ability but never really put in a performance to demand a spot in the United squad.

It's a strange one, but Brighton are clearly hoping Wilson can give them that final push to ensure Premier League promotion, and are also in for Dundalk's Richie Towell, as was almost confirmed by Chris Hughton earlier today.
