Man United Might Have To Make The Rare Move Of Paying To Make Players Leave

The Jose Mourinho clearout at Old Trafford, which began with Ryan Giggs being shunted out the door last week, looks set to continue in earnest throughout the rest of the summer and Bastian Schweinsteiger appears to be the next big name departing Manchester -- though it will cost the club a pretty penny to get rid of him.

Bastian Schweinsteiger was one of Louis van Gaal's marquee signings last summer but, much like many at Old Trafford last season, failed to impress in any real way.

The former Bayern Munich man has two years remaining on his contract at Manchester United and is slated to earn somewhere in the region of £14 million during that time but, if he is indeed deemed surplus to requirements by Jose Mourinho, the club will have to compensate the player to the tune of most or all of that sum.

Several clubs are said to be interested in Schweinsteiger, incluing Paris St. Germain.

Mourinho is no stranger to implementing a clear strategy when he arrives at a new club no matter how unpopular a decision it may seem and you just have to look towards Iker Casillas at Real Madrid and Juan Mata at Chelsea for evidence of this.

Memphis Depay, Marcus Rojo and Daley Blind are also being linked with moves away from United and, if Schweinsteiger does leave the club, Mourinho will have erased a significant number of van Gaal's transfer moves almost immediately.

Manchester United fans are still adjusting to life without Ryan Giggs after Mourinho's appointment essentially brought the Welshman's 29-year career at Old Trafford to a halt.

Giggs was understood to be pursuing the top job at Old Trafford but the club opted to appoint Mourinho in his place and it is not a controversial opinion to suggest that Mourinho wouldn't have wanted someone at the club who ultimately had their eye on the top job at the club.

As it's been with every club that Mourinho has managed he will build the team in his image -- and there will be casualties along the way.
