It could have been Chicago, but instead, Noel Hunt has chosen League One.

Ten days ago, Southend manager Phil Brown told Echo-News.co.uk that he was attempting to 'sex up' the club and make it more appealing than a move to the MLS.

We’re battling with Chicago to sign Noel so I’ve been doing everything I can to sex up Southend and make it more appealing than Chicago.

I’ve told him all about the town and how Adventure Island was the third best theme park in the country and the 11th best in Europe.

It’s quite hard to be able to compare anywhere to Chicago but we’ve done our best.

His efforts bore fruit yesterday when Southend announced that they had signed the 32-year-old on a one-year-deal with an option for a second year.

Southend did not disclose what exactly Brown did to 'sex up' the move and make the coastal town more appealing than Chicago. Presumably it involved fake tan.

Hunt joins the League One side after a somewhat turbulent period in his career.

After an unsuccessful year and a half with Leeds, he was released by the Elland Road club in January and joined Ipswich on a permanent deal shortly after.

However, he was let go by Mick McCarthy's side earlier in the summer.
