Paul Scholes Knows Who He Wants To See Replace David De Gea At Man United

David De Gea should tread carefully, that's according to former teammate Paul Scholes. The ex-Man United midfielder has today given De Gea a warning that the grass is not always greener on the other side amid intensifying reports that the Spanish goalkeeper has already packed his bags for Real Madrid.

However, Scholes has used his weekly column in the Independent to question whether De Gea would even be an automatic starter at the Bernabeu.

It looks to me that Iker Casillas is not yet ready to step down as the No 1 at Madrid, and you could hardly imagine a more successful, well-established goalkeeper than the man who has won everything for club and country.

At United, David is the undisputed No 1. He is loved by the supporters and valued by his team-mates. It might not be quite so smooth at Madrid.

Sorry Paul but we can't say we agree with you on that one. Casillas has had a bit of a nightmare couple of years in Madrid. He's has routinely been booed by the fans and generally looks fed up with the nonsense that accompanies Los Merengues.

Despite Scholes' reservations it does look increasingly likely that De Gea will be heading back home this summer. And if that is the case, Scholes knows exactly who he'd like to see between the sticks.

If De Gea does go, United should sign Petr Cech. I remember the effect Edwin van der Sar had on the club when he arrived in 2005. United had struggled since Peter Schmeichel to find a really commanding goalkeeper.

Edwin was almost 35 when he joined United. Cech has only just turned 33. He could potentially play another six years for United.

With Jose Mourinho seemingly willing to allow Cech to leave Chelsea it could potentially be a move that would appeal to Louis Van Gaal.
