Some very encouraging news has emerged from Italian news outlet gianlucadimarzio.com, but this time it isn't a player that is being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Instead, Atletico Madrid sporting director Andrea Berta is said to be considering linking up with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United next season, and if true that could be a massive boost for fans of the club.

While the biggest milestones in His career have taken place in Spain, Berta could be leaving Madrid for England, where he could partner with Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

Berta has a good relationship with Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes, The Possibility That he will join Manchester United is concrete- he will give His answer in the next few weeks. Manchester United is looking to get back on track, Mourinho and Berta could be the central figures in Their new project.

So why would this be such welcome news for United fans?

Because a change in direction is badly needed, and Berta has proven his ability to do exactly what Ed Woodward has failed to do as Manchester United chief executive.

A glaring problem at United right now is that there are no real 'football men' between Louis Van Gaal and the club's owners. Ed Woodward has proven himself to be a huge asset to the club from a business point of view and has secured a number of extremely impressive endorsement deals, but when it comes to player recruitment, questions are consistently asked in terms of what the club's direction is, if they have one at all.

Berta has overseen Atletico's rise to an incredible standard over the last few seasons, culminating in a La Liga title win and a Champions League final appearance which is made all the more impressive by the teams which Barcelona and Real Madrid have fielded in that time.

Player recruitment has been at the heart of that success, as while Diego Simeone has clearly done an excellent job as manager, there has been a consistent stream of talent coming into the club as the likes of Barca, Real, and Premier League teams look to pick Atleti's top stars.

After David De Gea was poached by Manchester United, the club brought in Thibaut Courtois who played a huge part in their success during his time there, and when he returned to Chelsea he was replaced by Jan Oblak who has proven himself to be a top-level goalkeeper already. Important players like Raul Garcia and Arda Turan have left the club and been replaced by the likes of Saul Niguez and Antoine Griezmann who are playing significant roles in Atletico's impressive campaign this season.

Allowing Ed Woodward to continue the good work he has done in terms of finances while bringing in someone who has proven they can handle player recruitment at an elite level and bring top talent for Jose Mourinho to manage would be cause for Manchester United fans to look forward to the next few season, as opposed to wondering where the club is heading in its current state.

We'll bring you more on this story as it develops.
