Relive Roy Keane's Explosive MUTV Rant On Its 10th Anniversary

It is 10th anniversary of the now infamous Roy Keane outburst that effectively ended his Manchester United career

The 4-1 loss that United suffered at the Riverside angered Keane so much that it prompted him to give his now infamous interview on MUTV during the program entitled "Roy Keane Plays The Pundit". The interview was so explosive that it was never broadcast and the club have since destroyed all the tapes so it can never see the light of day.

Not only is today the ten year anniversary of the interview but it is also comes a day after United lost to Middlesborough so it seems even more fitting that we relive some of Keane's comments.

Below are firstly Keane's comments regarding the loss against Middlesborough and the state of the club:

I wasn't surprised by the result, I had been expecting one like this.

There is a shortage of characters in this team. It seems to be in this club that you have to play badly to be rewarded. Maybe that is what I should do when I come back. Play badly.

The players have been asked questions and they are just not coming up with the answers. I am sick of having to say it and they are sick of listening to me. They have let down the club, the manager and the fans. When they sign their contracts, they think they have made it. They owe it to the manager, the staff and the fans.

The fact they are out should be enough incentive for those coming in to play better and give more. There is talk about putting this right in January and bringing new players in. We should be doing the opposite - we should be getting rid of people in January.

Here are some of the comments Keane had on his fellow team-mates performance against Middlesborough:

Rio Ferdinand

Just because you are paid £120,000 a week and play well for 20 minutes against Tottenham you think you are a superstar.

On Experienced Players

The younger players have been let down by some of the more experienced ones - they are not leading. There is a shortage of characters.

It seems to be in this club you have to play badly to be rewarded. Maybe that is what I should do when I come back - play badly.

Edwin Van Der Sar

He should have saved that. That was savable.

Alan Smith

What is he doing there? He is wandering around as if he is lost. He doesn't know what he is doing.

John O'Shea

He's just strolling around when he should have been busting a gut to get back.

Darren Fletcher

I can't understand why people in Scotland rave about Darren Fletcher.

Roy Keane was handed a £5,000 fine by the club for his explosive outburst and and this incident can be seen as the trigger for his acrimonious Old Trafford exit.

More recently the recounting of the interview in autobiographies have caused further fallout, most noticeably with Sir Alex Ferguson and Roy Keane.

Ferguson said of the interview that "It was unbelievable. He slaughtered everyone. Darren Fletcher got it. Alan Smith. Van der Sar. Roy was taking them all down." Ferguson also added this rather harsh assessment of Keane.

The hardest part of Roy’s body is his tongue. He has the most savage tongue you can imagine.

Keane later on gave a response on TV to Ferguson's attacks on him and other players in his autobiography.

I do remember having conversations with the manager when I was at the club about loyalty and in my opinion I don’t even think he knows the meaning of the word.

Not only did the interview lead to Keane's bitter exit from United in 2005 but it has also lead to an extraordinary war of words with his old boss which has been nothing short of fantastic viewing.
