Ireland's Injury Problems Are Mounting For Those Crucial Euro 2016 Qualifiers

Ireland have two massive Euro 2016 qualifiers coming over the next seven days, Germany at the Aviva on the 8th and then Poland in Warsaw on the 11th.

Seamus Coleman has struggled with a hamstring injury in recent weeks and that continued on Sunday as he missed the Merseyside derby.

After the game, Roberto Martinez did not have good news for Irish fans.

The truth is that Seamus is desperate to play for Ireland, but medically he wasn't ready.

He’s not going to be ready in two or three days. We’ll be working with Ireland who we have a very good relationship with.

Coleman was included in Martin O'Neill's 27-man squad, announced last night, but chances of him be ready for the Germany game now seem low.

This adds to the news that Ciaran Clark has already been ruled out due to a thigh strain. The Aston Villa centre back started both of Ireland's last two qualifiers.

Also, Marc Wilson is also a doubt with a calf strain. The Stoke City player would be the most likely replacement for Clark, if fit.

These three injuries could leave Martin O'Neill very short in defence.

Stephen Quinn and Harry Arter were also excluded from the Ireland squad due to injury.

On Sunday evening, Darron Gibson was called up to the Ireland squad, having originally been omitted.
