In the days following 18 November 2009, the Irish nation binged on outrage to the point where it was inevitable that we would embarrass ourselves eventually.
When the FAI tossed out the 33rd team proposal during a meeting with FIFA, they presented Blatter with the opportunity to ridicule Ireland.
Following that farrago, many Irish supporters lost their passion for flagging up the matter.
The French nation hasn't been through this process. This week, French journalists have shown precious little interest in the current Irish team. They are only interested in one narrative, Ireland's supposed desire for revenge for 2009.
On today's edition of the Euros Racket, we had interviewed our Ladbrokes Prophets for Profit, Miguel Delaney and Nathan Murphy.
Nathan detailed the French journalists' obsession with alleged obsession with Thierry Henry's handball.
I don't think they're too concerned. They haven't really been talking about the Irish formation or tactics or anything like that. They're only obsessed with one thing. They're obsessed with how much we're talking about revenge for 2009. Every single question has been about the Henry handball that has come from a French journalist at the press conference.
Clearly, the Irish players have been told 'say nothing'. Every single Irish player has said 'oh, it's not a factor, we haven't spoken about it all'.
In fact, there was on bit today, Daryl Murphy at the press conference literally his answer was 'oh, no, we haven't spoken about it all. Obviously like it's been mentioned.'
So I do feel that a message has come from on high that 'listen, don't get into some sort of slagging match about Thierry Henry again, let everyone else talk about it.
But the French are definitely building it up as a revenge mission for Ireland to undo the hurt of seven years ago.
