On Wednesday night a tweet from Sky Bet caused one hell of a stir for Scottish football fans...

After moving from 16/1 to 6/4 to sign for Rangers, someone has clearly placed a large chunk of cash on the deal happening. So what the hell is going on?

Sadly, we really don't know as despite the fact that Van Persie has spoken before on possibly joining the club while he was a player at Feyenoord, there has been no speculation about a deal taking place this summer.

That is what makes the slashing of the odds of the move happening all the more strange.

Robin Van Persie is currently a Fenerbache player and all signs were pointing towards him playing out another year in Turkey despite not looking entirely thrilled with the situation on numerous occasions last year, but were a shock move to Glasgow to take place, it would be a huge boost for Scottish football as a whole and turn heads all over Europe.

Rangers fans have heard the update from Sky Bet, and they don't know how to react.

Some think it is totally ridiculous:

But others are allowing themselves to dream:

You would have to imagine that financially it would be too complicated to be pulled off, but there market shift would have had to come from something.

Here is what Van Persie said back in 2012 when asked about how close he came to joining Rangers:

I was still playing for Feyenoord and I wanted to go there [Rangers]. I spoke to Dick Advocaat and he was interested.

I was ready to go but they first needed to sell one player before they could buy me.

Dick never told me who it was but I was ready to go until, in the end, I joined Arsenal. It was a good move to leave Holland and going to England was great.

It would be possibly the most surprising transfer of the summer, but it could be absoltuely nothing. Still, you can't blame those few Rangers fans for getting a bit excited.

Well, maybe you can.
