After netting what many experts are describing as the greatest goal ever scored, Shane Long did his best to top it when he was approached by Tony O'Donoghue for his post-match interview.

As bedlam broke out at the Aviva Stadium and thousands of Irish fans around the country lost their shit, Long unleashed the most glorious roar of "YEEESSSSS" ever heard on national television - if you exclude shampoo ads - which seemed to beautifully encapsulate the mood of a nation after a historic 1-0 victory over the reigning world champions.

Long also paid a glowing tribute to Darren Randolph, who out-Neuered Manuel Neuer with a glorious assist for the Tipp man's wundergol.

Here's the interview in all its glory:

Tonight was the first time Ireland have defeated a top ranking international side in a competitive fixture since a Jason McAteer-inspired victory over Holland in 2001.

O'Donoghue compared Long's strike to other famous moments from Irish footballing history; Houghton in New Jersey, Robbie Keane in Ibraki, and McAteer in Dublin, and it's hard to disagree.

This was a truly momentous occasion for Irish football, as were Long's goal and the famous victory.
