You regularly hear people complaining about goalkeepers taking their sweet time with the ball in their possession, but when was the last time you saw someone punished for it?
Tonight in the Europa League, those who were watching Liverpool vs Bordeaux saw just that, as Simon Mignolet took an inexplicable amount of time to boot the ball down the pitch, and the referee awarded an indirect free-kick inside the penalty area.
Here's Mignolet being the most indecisive goalkeeper ever to hold a football by clinging to it for 21 seconds.. There's a So Solid Crew joke in there somewhere:
And perhaps even rarer than seeing that be punished, former Football Manager wonderkid Henri Saivet then stuck the ball in the net from an indirect free-kick:
That's awful from Mignolet. At 0-0 in the first half, there was no need to be taking so long with the kick-out.
Lucky for him he was spared a bollocking at half-time by a wonderful Christian Benteke goal which gave Liverpool the lead following an equaliser from the spot courtesy of James Milner.
Bruce Grobbelaar probably has a big smile on his face right now.
