And so it rumbles on. As things stand, Anthony Cunningham is still the Galway senior hurling manager. He was ratified after all but what that means in effect is not quite so clear. It seems Cunningham won't be stepping down anytime soon, which is at odds with what the majority of players want to see.
That's a rather uncomfortable situation for everyone involved and now there's a rather unlikely speedbump in the way. The AIG Hurling Classic at Fenway Park in Boston was expected to be an interesting sideshow. Something for the fans to enjoy in America and little else.
It will be a 'super-11s' game rather than a full 15 a side clash between Galway and Dublin. But given the fact that it takes place on November 22nd, it has taken on some added significance. Who would be in the dugout for the event?
That's not exactly clear but it seems certain that it won't be Anthony Cunningham. Writing in today's Irish Independent, Colm Keys reports that the Galway manager won't be travelling to Boston with the team.
Galway taking to the field without their manager is indicative of just how messy the situation has become but what this means going forward is not entirely set in stone. It appears that Cunningham's absence from the Fenway game is just another bump in what is set to be a continually arduous road.
