Joe Brolly Apologised For A Comment He Made About Marty Morrissey On The Sunday Game

While previewing the Ulster Championship game between Cavan and Monaghan Joe Brolly produced the kind of joke usually reserved for friends in the pub rather than national TV. Brolly has been no fan of Cavan in recent years and jokingly said their brand of football was "as ugly as Marty Morrissey".

I've called Cavan over the last few years 'The Black Death'. Somebody said it's as ugly as Marty Morrissey, their football. Maybe I should apologise to the people of Cavan.

Come half time of the game, Brolly clarified his comments saying that they were meant in an affectionate manner rather than a spiteful one.

And on the other thing, I just wanted to say obviously that what I said about Marty Morrissey earlier was said in the spirit of affection. It wasn't meant literally.

Michael Lyster then said "Well I presume that's an apology. We appreciate that because it was out of order, Joe".

The Derryman's response was a nod and a smile.
