Darragh Ó Sé Wins The Prize For Most Humorous Response To That Cork Statement

The Irish Times are hitting heady heights this week with their columnists. Yesterday, the Aristotle of the GAA, Jim McGuinness, rode in on his white horse and summed up everything that's wrong with gaelic football (not that he's the first too do that by any stretch of the imagination).

Now it's the turn of Darragh Ó Sé to come in with his clever words and cast his eye over the kind of weekend that would make most Kerrymen laugh all the way to yet another All Ireland semi-final. Unsurprisingly, that's exactly what Ó Sé does.

Somewhat facetiously painting Kerry as the supremely talented demi-gods of gaelic football, Ó Sé can do little but smirk when it seems the GAA is crumbling as a result of Kerry's inability to keep a lid on things against Kildare. To be fair, he does go on to make some serious points but in the midst of his humorous opening, he can't help but getting a few delightful digs in against Cork and that statement about Brian Cuthbert's departure.

I don’t know who put out that statement from the Cork County Board but whoever they were must have a bit of Kerry blood in them somewhere. Just when all the focus was coming down on Kerry, Cork pipe up and start cribbing about having to play in the rain.

Talk about a godsend! It had to be a double agent at work. We thought we were goosed, we thought we’d have to spend the whole week ducking for cover. But out of nowhere, Cork decide that now is the time to go and take a stand.

As if that wasn't bad enough, he then goes on to deliver the knock out blow.

And can I be the first to say, they were just right too. The rain. The referee. The quick turnaround. World hunger. Child poverty. It all conspired to nail poor Cork to the cross.

Some say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. In this case, we'd politely disagree.
