A Clare player who is itching to play in this weekend's League Final will have to watch from the sideline after being diagnosed with concussion following Clare's win over Kilkenny ten days ago.

We don't yet know the player is as Davy is refusing the divulge his name. He says this is to protect the player. Once his team is named for Sunday we will have a clearer indication. We will know for sure who it isn't at the very least.

Davy Fitzgerald said that he will not risk the player by playing him, as reported by Jackie Cahill in the Irish Independent.

The most important thing in this setup is the player comes first. I'm not going to risk anyone, if I thought it would cause problems down the road.

We have one player who concussed after the Kilkenny game.

He's mad to go but I don't think we're going to. He'll be devastated.

The player is number one, no matter what else happens. Winning hurling games is number two.

Seamus Hayes of the Clare Champion added that he understands the player is 'mad to play' but the protocols must be adhered to.

In GAA, players have to sit out the next fortnight following a concussion scare.
