Is Eddie Brennan's Gracious Tweet To Westmeath More Of A Dig At His Own Players?

We've had a morning to sleep on it, and it's still hard to get our heads around the events in Mullingar on Wednesday night.

It's worth repeating: Westmeath beat Kilkenny in the Leinster U21 championship.

At that level, Westmeath have been 'a coming team' to borrow the classic cliché but even still, to say it's a shock is an understatement. It's one of the biggest shocks in GAA history. While we try to get our minds around this concept, Kilkenny's U21 manager Eddie Brennan took to twitter after some reflection to show some class in congratulating Westmeath on the result.

But is there more to it than that? It's difficult to not focus on 'REAL' like that in capitalised letters?

We don't want to read too much into it but it's difficult not to suggest that he may be having a go at his players there. If that is the case, it's a rather strange way for Brennan to do it in such a public fashion like twitter - especially after having the night to digest the result.

As big a night for Westmeath hurling as it was, it's hard to get over the fact that Kilkenny will be reeling from the humiliation of it all. Granted, it's exceedingly disrespectful to suggest that one team narrowly beating another is humiliation but this is Kilkenny hurling after all, and this is a defeat that's not likely to be forgotten any time soon.
