For the first time in their history, Donegal are the Senior Ulster champions after recording an impressive 2-12 to 1-10 victory over Monaghan.

Geraldine McLaughlin made a notable impression on the game, ratcheting up a personal tally of 2-7. Prior to yesterday’s game, Monaghan and Donegal had met just twice before in an Ulster Final with Monaghan pocketing the prize on both occasions.

But there was no place for records on the 2015 script as Donegal exploited a sin bin for Monaghan’s Laura McEnaney to race into a 0-07 0-04 half-time lead.
McLaughlin landed her first goal shortly after the restart and despite a Monaghan goal from the penalty spot, Donegal would not to be denied in their pursuit of the title.

This marks a complete departure from the side who shipped an 8-27 to 0-02 defeat to Cork in 2012 and they will face either Armagh or Westmeath in the last eight while Monaghan must return to the qualifier route to face Cavan.

Intermediate Ulster Final

Fermanagh stalwart Caroline Little notched 3-7 on route to claiming their fourth Ulster title at the expense of Antrim on a scoreline of 4-13 to 1-6.

Qualifiers

Cavan issued a strong message to other senior contenders with the demolition of Down in the Senior Championship qualifiers. Aisling Doonan was in devastating form as she devoured the Down defence with a personal account of 3-10 while Róisín O’Keeffe pitched in with 8 points. Down are the reigning All-Ireland Intermediate champions and have lost some significant players since then.

Meanwhile, Armagh dominated Laois in the other qualifier with Aimee Mackin and midfielder Caroline O’Hanlon helping themselves to 1-4 apiece.
