The referee for last year's All-Ireland final will take charge of this Saturday's blockbuster replay in Croke Park. Eddie Kinsella of Laois has the unenviable task of stepping into Joe McQuillan's shoes.
The appointment is unlikely to cheer Jim Gavin or Dublin supporters. Kinsella was in charge during Dublin's trip to Killarney in the League this year.
Kerry won 0-15 to 1-10 and Kinsella was very liberal when it came to doling out cards of various hues - especially to the Dubs.
Dublin ended up with one (straight) red card after Michael Fitzsimons was banished for playing a stormer in one of the many melees, two black cards, which were shown to Philly McMahon and Denis Bastick, and five yellow cards.
The Dublin supporters jeered Kinsella from the pitch and Gavin understood their reaction.
You saw the reaction of our travelling support at the end and I think that probably spoke volumes. It’s something I can’t control, and all I ever want my players to do is influence their own game, and I’m very proud of them in that respect.
Kieran Donaghy was moved to defend Kinsella after the controversy, saying that Kerry and Dublin is 'notoriously fiesty. I thought Eddie and his officiating team did a great job.'
