Your Surefire, Can't Miss GAA Accumulator Of The Weekend

The GAA Championship returns to our lives, if not our TV screens, this weekend. HQ don't really do enthralling curtain raisers, and have instead served up three Leinster matches and one game up North that are the opposite for mouth-watering for the football-hungry populous.

On yesterday's Racket, we discussed the weekend's handicaps in depth.

Based on that conversation, we present the following accumulator. We're backing four favourites with the handicap this weekend, which is never a good look, but trust us anyway.

    • Louth -5 vs Carlow
    • Laois -6 vs Wicklow
    • Fermanagh -3 vs Antrim
    • Offaly -1 vs Longford

Our reasoning:

  • Carlow didn't have a bad League by Division 4 standards, but Louth won the whole thing. We think they'll win big today in Portlaoise.
  • We don't feel great about backing Laois with six points given how poor their league was, but hammering a Wicklow team that lost to Carlow at home in the League shouldn't be too tall of a task. Plus there's the Anthony Cunningham factor.
  • Fermanagh survived the shark's nest that is Division 2 and have established their credentials as an upper middle-class GAA county. Beating Antrim well at home tomorrow will build a base for another summer of intrigue.
  • Offaly have struggled with Longford in the Championship in recent years but the soundings out of Connerton's camp and not good and we expect Offaly's 2 point league win over Longford in January will serve as a carbon copy for this game.

Get on it. 2 quid gets you 28 back.
