The heartbeat of Conor McGregor's chances of fighting at UFC 200 flatlined weeks ago. The UFC featherweight champion was scheduled for a rematch against Nate Diaz on July 9th.

What seems most likely is that McGregor's next fight will be a defence of his belt against the winner of Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo's interim featherweight title fight at UFC 200.

McGregor though is still attempting CPR on that rematch with Diaz.

Yesterday on Instagram he declared all other fights insignificant until he and Diaz step into the octagon once again.

Nobody gives a fuck about these other fights until this one is settled.
Cut the bullshit. Run it back. #RealFight

Many fans would say the opposite - that McGregor vs Diaz 2 is actually the meaningless fight. Apart from McGregor's brand, and pride, what's at stake? There's no belt. It's a fight at a weight in which neither man usually competes. Sure, people will watch but it turns MMA into a spectacle rather than a sport.

On Twitter today, McGregor continued to bang his rematch drum.

This claim about UFC 200 beating the Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao pay-per-view record is highly dubious. That card had 4.6 million buys. Max, with McGregor, UFC 200 would have been around 2 million and that's a generous estimation.
