President of the Olympic Council of Ireland Pat Hickey announced on Today with Sean O'Rourke that he will step down from his role after the Rio Olympics.

Hickey has been in situ since 1989. He will likely be succeeded by OCI First Vice President Willie O'Brien rather than John Delaney who is Second Vice President.

Hickey also backed golfers such as Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry who withdrew from the Olympics citing fears regarding the Zika virus. Though weeks later Rory McIlroy - being brutally honest - conveyed his real reasons for not competing - he just doesn't care about golf at the Olympics.
