One of the sensational stories of the NFL preseason has been the development of former Rugby League player of the year Jarryd Hayne. The 27 year old Australian has been playing his first games of American football in the NFL pre season, and even the Americans are impressed.

In his first game, he ran through a gaping hole against the Texans for a 38-yard-gain, whilst his kick returning skills were on display in the second game against the Dallas Cowboys. It actually looks like Hayne could make the 49ers 53-man roster for the regular season.

Australians got up in their droves to catch their hero in the third pre season game, but were quickly disappointed. Hayne didn't make an appearance in the first half, as the entire nation of Australia started to turn on the 49ers coach Jim Tomsula. Veteran Reggie Bush was the preferred punt returner in the first half, and Bush made a meal of things - allowing one punt to bounce leading to a safety on quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Australlians took to twitter to express their annoyance that Hayne wasn't playing:

Hayne did eventually get some time, showing that added value by catching a pass from the backfield and gaining 18 yards.
