CJ Stander's importance for Munster has increased considerably during his three year spell at the province, and it doesn't look like slowing down anytime soon. Stander quickly earned himself a place in the hearts of Munster fans with his impressive showings, and now we can look forward to more of the same as the backrow has signed a new deal.

Munster and the IRFU have confirmed that Stander will be staying with the province another two years, bringing his stay until June 2018.

Stander has stayed in Ireland long enough to become eligible for the national side, and it appears that this move should seal the next step where he becomes an Irish international. The question remains though, will Schmidt make him wait while he learns the system like everyone else - or will his talents be too good to ignore?

Stander is only 25-years-old, and is coming off a season where he won seven Man of the Match awards in 26 appearances. He has assumed a captaincy role in the absence of Paul O'Connell and Peter O'Mahony this season, and his re-signing can only be good news for Munster and Ireland.

A debut against the country of his birth in June looks likely.
