Ireland took the lead after 15 minutes against France.

It came from a penalty following a late, cynical hit on Johnny Sexton by French second row Yoann Maestri.

On commentary for the BBC, Brian Moore labelled it a 'cheap shot'. Referee Jaco Peyper, who clearly saw the incident, immediately put his arm out for advantage to Ireland, though he adjudged it to be only a penalty rather than a yellow card.
