Simon Zebo's possible move to Toulouse certainly makes a lot of sense. If it is to happen then there's every chance it could be the catalyst for Zebo stepping up to the next level and ironing out some of the deficiencies in his game. That may not be what Munster fans want to hear but, on occasion, a change of scene is exactly what's needed.

However, that doesn't mean Munster will allow one of their star players to leave without a fight. Speaking to the press yesterday, Munster assistant coach Brian Walsh addressed the rumours which emerged on Monday and he was rather open about what he felt was at the heart of all this.

It wouldn't surprise me if there is interest in Simon from around the place, but how hard that interest is or how interested he is I don't know.

The dynamic has changed over the last number of years and it's now a constant round of players and contracts.

As much as we may enjoy the intrigue of contract negotiations and possible transfers, Walsh then delivered the kind of warning that would stop any rugby fan dead in their tracks.

Any high-profile players are going to be linked with clubs. It's just the way the game has gone. It is almost like deadline day with soccer.

Please no. Don't get us wrong, we're not taking sides on the ever turgid soccer vs rugby debate. But if there's one thing that no one needs anymore of, it's transfer deadline day shenanigans crossing codes into rugby or any other sport for that matter.

We can see it now, Contract Extension Day presented by George Hook and Neil Francis, both resplendent in suitably garish ties.
