Serena Williams came through a tricky match with Angelique Kerber to claim her seventh Wimbledon title, and 22nd Grand Slam. The undisputed best female player in the world made sure that Kerber didn't shock her like she did in the Australian Open final in an entertaining straight sets victory.
While the prizemoney for Wimbledon looks like it went up from last year - Williams collected £2 million compared to £1.88 million the previous year. In truth, Williams will be taking home less money because of Brexit.
Last year's prize money equated to $2,891,440 for Serena - whilst this year's kitty will only amount to $2,590,000 - a reduction of $301,440.
Interestingly, even if Wimbledon had taken place before the Brexit vote - the uncertainty surrounding the sterling and it's weakened would have meant that the prize money would still be less in dollars than the previous year. The total would have been $2,874,000 - which is just $17,000 less, but a lot more than what Serena will actually pocket.
That's quite a staggering impact just from the fall of the Sterling following Brexit.
