McLaren Boss Describes Eddie Jordan As The 'Village Idiot' Of Formula One

The man whose formula 1 team finished third in the constructors championship back in 1999, is the 'village idiot' of the sport.

So says McLaren supremo Ron Dennis.

Dennis, having led McLaren for what seemed like a century, took over once again recently after a hiatus of a few years when Martin Whitmarsh led team operations.

The tenacious band of people who still watch Formula One will know that Eddie is a pundit with the BBC. And he used this platform to chastise Ron Dennis.

McLaren boss Ron Dennis sacked ex-team principal Martin Whitmarsh but Whitmarsh never did the job of running that team as badly as Dennis is doing it now.

You can say Honda (the engine McLaren is using) is a mess but so are McLaren. They have been a shadow of their former selves since they arrogantly stated that Lewis Hamilton would rue the day he left McLaren. Look how that has rebounded on them.

That arrogance is still there at the top of McLaren. They are hopelessly off the pace and anyone who thinks it is just the engine is deluding themselves. The engine is a lot of it, but there are lots of other issues there.

Dennis took on board Jordan's comments. Or at least he heard them. Here is his response.

I consider Formula One a bit of a family. Families live in villages, villages always have a village idiot and he fits the bill perfectly.

Despite proffering Eddie as a suitable candidate for the title of Formula One village idiot, Dennis insists they are not not friends.

I don’t consider him not a friend. I just think he is disconnected with reality. He wants to be colourful, but colourful at other people’s expense.

Here is Ron and Eddie in happier times.
