Bastian Schweinsteiger's former manager Pep Guardiola has raised further doubts around the German midfield's fitness, claiming he hasn't been in good condition for the last three years.

Man United have laid down a significant amount of money for Schweinsteiger, given his age, and judging by Guardiola's comments it is definitely a calculated gamble. However, the Bayern manager was still full of praise for the player and stated that he thinks Schweinsteiger can recapture his form of old:

When he does not have injury problems I am completely convinced he will do very well at Manchester United.

He is a top, top player. Unfortunately, the last three years he was never in good condition.

His knee and ankle problems - he only started 15 games last season -  have been well documented but Guardiola is hopeful the worst is behind him 'When he is in very good condition I am convinced he will be a good player for them. I really hope that is going to happen.'

Meanwhile he has also been full of praise for United's reported target Pedro, who he of course managed at Barcelona, describing the winger as 'one of the best players you can imagine.'

If you want to talk about best players one could imagine, then I was quite the footballer back when I was about eight years old.
