Alex Permann was selected to take part in a competition to win $50,000 before the Missouri Valley Conference championship game on Sunday. To win $50,000 he had make a layup, a free throw, a three pointer and a half court shot.

Having succeeded with the layup and free throw and moved on to the half court shot and sunk it on his first go. He went suitably crazy, as anyone would if they thought they had just won $50,000. Permann's failing though was that he didn't listen to the rules of the competition and had completely forgotten about the three pointer.

From USA Today:

"When I hit that shot," he said later, "I was thinking about 50 grand."

Ooops.

About that 3-pointer -- he forgot.

"I guess I don't listen too good," Permann said.

By the time he realized his mistake, he had time to rush off a couple of 3-point attempts, but missed.

Let that be a lesson to all of us to read the rules.
