Former WWE star and UFC adoptee CM Punk has quite the battle on his hands next month, but it won't take place in the octagon.

The 38-year-old will partake in a special edition of MTV reality series The Challenge, where he and nine other professional athletes will face off against some of the show's former winners in its 'Champs vs. Pros' series, which premieres on May 16th.

Among the other contestants are retired NFL players Shawne Merriman and Kamerion Wimbley, along with Olympic hurdler and bobsledder Lolo Jones and former WNBA great Candice Wiggins.

The athletes will face the show's former champions in athletics-type contests, with the winners earning $50,000 for a charity of their choosing. CM Punk is competing for PAWS Chicago, a no-kill animal shelter in his home city.

This special series of the hit MTV show will be hosted by former New York Giant and 2011 Super Bowl winner Victor Cruz.

CM Punk last competed in the UFC on his debut back in September, when he was destroyed by Mickey Gall inside a round. It's understood his purse for that fight rose to somewhere in the region of $1m. The UFC has repeatedly stated that he'll fight again, but he'll be somewhat distracted in the coming months as he battles to win $50,000 for PAWS.
