Madden 18 Reveal Suggests Exciting New 'The Journey' Game Mode

If you ask someone who plays FIFA 17 what they think about 'The Journey', a groundbreaking new single-player story mode inserted into the ultra-popular football game back in September of last year, chances are they will tell you it was a decent idea, but ultimately flawed.

It was shorter than many gamers had expected, it forced you to go out on loan even if you were smashing it at your parent club, and the time sensitive decisions you had to make had no real impact on the story... It was a good idea, but after a few weeks nobody was talking about Alex Hunter anymore and it was back to Career Mode and Ultimate Team.

However, 'The Journey' as a concept is a fantastic idea, and it lends itself much better to other sports. NBA 2K's My Career mode is absolutely outstanding, and a shining example, as with only one league and 32 teams to focus on, it's much easier to tell a realistic story and have a player feel truly involved.

Now, for Madden 18, it seems as though 'story mode' is coming to the NFL.

EA SPORTS revealed the cover for Madden 18 on Friday morning, where Tom Brady has been selected in what everyone can see is an attempt to break the dreaded 'Madden curse' (where the athlete chosen for the Madden cover has a terrible season) once and for all.

And along with the cover, Madden also unveiled one of their big plans for the game.

It may not officially called 'The Journey', but it's the same concept as you will be controlling a single fictional character during his NFL career.

This is seriously exciting.

Madden has had the ability to control one player on the field in numerous years gone by, but having a storyline running through it will no doubt be a lot of fun. You would have to imagine that you will either be a quarter-back or running-back to keep things interesting, but the NFL draft provides an excellent starting point for the narrative, so we can't wait to get stuck in.
