The Royal Rumble is everyone's favourite wrestling event. Whether you're a fan or not, for some reason the Royal Rumble is something that everyone seems to be entertained by. Even my own father who has always referred to wrestling as "them fellas jumping around in their underpants" will sit down with me every year without fail and enjoy the Royal Rumble.
Why is that? Maybe it's a mixture of the constantly moving countdown clock, the constantly changing participants, the mystery of the "who's next?", the stakes that the winner goes to main event Wrestlemania, or probably just a mixture of everything. Well, Royal Rumble fans rejoice, this year there's two for you to enjoy!
Last night on Monday Night Raw, the WWE announced that this year will see their Women's division yet again break new ground and this year they will compete in the first ever women's Royal Rumble match. This follows on from the first ever women's Money in the Bank ladder match, as well as Sasha Banks and, Raw Women's Champion, Alexa Bliss competing in the first Women's wrestling match in the Middle East two weeks ago.
There is no further details yet on the match itself but early rumours suggest that twenty women will participate (the traditional Royal Rumble match contains thirty men competing). Excitement is already building however with several of WWE's contracted female talent reacting via social media.

WWE's "Women's Revolution", and their hugely positive strides in women's wrestling, has always led to very positive press for the Sports Entertainment company, who have recently been in the press for their pending signing of former UFC Superstar Ronda Rousey. Imagine the stir in the press if "Rowdy" Ronda Rousey makes her WWE debut at the January event and wins the first ever WWE Women's Royal Rumble?
