Watch: Adam McMullen Sets New Northern Irish Long Jump Record

It was an early season Saturday to remember for Adam McMullen in Jordanstown.

The Magherafelt long jumper - who competes for Ireland - broke his personal best, set a new Northern Ireland indoor record and also reached the qualifying mark for the European Championships in Berlin with a jump of 7.97m.

The jump was 12cm further than the 27-year-old's outdoor best set last May.

McMullen represented Ireland at the European indoors in Prague three years ago, though he failed to progress to the final. A performance like Saturday's in future championships would put him in medal contention at European level.

Mark Forsythe, with a leap of 8.14m back in 1991, holds the Northern Irish outdoor record. Both indoor and outdoor Irish records are held by Ciaran McDonagh with marks of 8.00m and 8.07m respectively.
