With his final leap in the long jump at the Stockholm Diamond League meeting on Sunday, Juan Miguel Echevarria firmly put himself into the thoughts of athletics fans worldwide.
The 19-year-old Cuban was already leading the competition with a jump of 8.50m in the fourth round - just 3cm off his best ever effort.
After skipping his fifth attempt, Echevarria again stepped on to the track for his sixth attempt. The teenager jumped a monster 8.83m.
However, the wind was just over the legal limit at 2.1 m/s. A maximum of 2.0 m/s is allowed for record purposes.

Still, it was the furthest anyone has jumped - in any conditions - since Ivan Pedroso leapt 8.96m in 1995. If it had been legal, it would have put Echevarria at number five on the all-time list.
The world record is still held by Mike Powell's 8.95m effort at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo.
