Canelo Alvarez Clarifies Positive Test Ahead Of Golovkin Fight

Canelo Alvarez has claimed his positive test was the result of contaminated meat, via a Golden Boy Promotions statement today.

Alvarez had agreed a May re-match against Gennady Golovkin after their bout last September, but the Mexican test positive for Clenbuterol. His promotional company have said Alvarez will make himself available for more tests.

I am an athlete who respects the sport and this surprises me and bothers me because it had never happened to me. I will submit to all the tests that require me to clarify this embarrassing situation and I trust that at the end the truth will prevail.

The company have claimed the amount detected in the test is consistent with meat-contamination. Clenbuterol is used by sufferers of breathing disorders as a decongestant while also utilised as a PED.

He will now move his training camp from Mexico to the US in a bid to clear his name before May's massive fight.
