Deontay Wilder retained his WBC heavyweight title with a ninth round knockout of Polish fighter Artur Szpilka at the Barclays Center in New York on Saturday night.

The Pole had actually put up one hell of a fight against the title holder, until he was knocked out cold that is.

It was a closely fought encounter until the challenger was caught on the chin with a devastating right hand by the American.

There were some worrying scenes post the knockout as Szpilka was lifted from the ring after receiving medical attention for close to ten minutes. He was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The victory leaves Wilder 36-0 in his career with 35 of those wins coming inside the distance.
