Alex Ferguson has returned to Old Trafford for the first time since a health scare which placed him in intensive care.

The legendary Manchester United boss suffered a brain haemorrhage on May 5th, undergoing emergency surgery. He was then placed in an induced coma, before being released from hospital the following month.

The Scot had hoped to be in the Old Trafford director's box for the start of the season, but he has finally made his return to the stadium today. Manchester United shared this photo on their official Twitter page.

Many had feared for the health of the 13-time Premier League winning manager, and will no doubt be encouraged by this development.

As you can imagine, the footballing world reacted happily to the news.

Since his release, Ferguson has kept the public updated on his progress, releasing this video in early in July.

Hello. Just a quick message first of all to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra hospitals. Believe me, without those people, who gave me such great care, I would not be sitting here today. So, thank you from me and my family. Thank you very much.

Regardless of allegiances, I think all football fans can agree that it is great to see Ferguson healthy and back at Old Trafford once again.
