Derry City chairman Phil O'Doherty has confirmed he is fully behind the campaign to rename the Brandywell Stadium in tribute to their late captain Ryan McBride.

McBride grew up in Derry and passed away at his home near the Brandywell Stadium in 2017. The  Ryan McBride Foundation was set up in his memory and have arranged a meeting with the clubs officials next week to discuss the matter.

O'Doherty revealed he is fully behind the plan when speaking to the BBC today.

I have met the McBride family, they have met with the board of directors and I have had a one to one conversation with Ryan's father Lexie McBride.

The Brandywell stadium has been unavailable to Derry recently due to a redevelopment plan that is set to introduce a new stand, a greyhound track and a new pitch.

McBride's sister has urged the public to get behind the campaign. Derry will finally move to the ground on March 2 when they face Dundalk.
