Ed Woodward Hailed For Touching Gesture In Aftermath Of Manchester Attack

Ed Woodward is like Marmite for a lot of Manchester United fans. The executive vice-chairman is the man praised or criticized for the various transfer dealings which go through, but is also the go-to excuse for why players turn down the Red Devils, but we digress.

People seem to forget though that there is another side to the shrewd corporate businessman. But a story from today's papers captures the man behind the transfer rumours.

Jeremy Cross writes in his column in today's Daily Star about the tragic events in Manchester last week. He was in Stockholm at the time, preparing to report on the Europa League final for the newspaper. His daughter was at the Ariana Grande concert back in England.

At a time of major panic and worry for a father who had a child in the Manchester Arena, Woodward extended a helping hand:

My daughter, who is 11, was caught up in the horrific events at the Manchester Arena, where a terrorist bomb killed 22 people including children.

She was left traumatised, unable to understand how evil the world can seem sometimes.

But when Woodward became aware of the situation, he was quick to get in touch with the offer of help in the shape of counselling.

He even invited me to travel back with the club following the Europa League final in Stockholm, so I could get home quicker.

With great adversity and terror spreading throughout the world in the aftermath of another attack, Woodward showed a touch of class. He is, after all, a father of two children himself.

In addition, Woodward was to the fore in helping raise the million pounds his club and Manchester City donated to an emergency fund set up after the attacks.

Cross's column also features opinion pieces on Arsene Wenger, Dele Alli, Paul Gascgoine and Exeter City. But it is the story about Woodward which stands out.

Well done that man.
