Celtic qualified for the knockout stages of the Europa League on Tuesday night after finishing third in a group which also featured PSG, Bayern Munich and Anderlecht.

Qualification came despite finishing with a minus-13 goal difference and also a final matchday defeat to Anderlecht.

Speaking to ITV after the game, Brendan Rodgers felt his players deserved some credit - their main objective for the group had been achieved.

They deserve a great amount of credit. They won't feel good tonight because we've lost the game but if you look over the course of the six games: we had a great result out there [Anderlecht], we've put in some decent performances, not got the results. Tonight the best team won.

The players have achieved their overall objective, which at the start was to get to the Europa League. We've done that having been the fourth seed in the group, it's a great testament to the actual players getting through. Like I say, there's still a hell of a lot of work to do.

On ITV's Champions League highlights show, Roy Keane agreed with presenter Mark Pougatch that mindset may have been an issue for Celtic against Anderlecht - avoiding a 3-0 defeat was enough to ensure they stayed in Europe this season.

Keane also took issue with Rodgers calling Celtic's qualification an achievement.

Really, I thought it was a shocking result, really poor performance. Brendan's talking there about it being a great achievement. I think the key to management nowadays is to set your standards really, really low and you'll be in the game for a long time.

It's just not acceptable for Celtic, it really isn't. Losing at home to Anderlecht, come on, give me a break.
